One of the toughest most spectacular mountain races in all of North America in a little known mountain range near Beaver, Utah. The Tushar Mountains are a hidden gem of high altitude peaks, mountain canyons, alpine lakes and stunning terrain. The Tushars are among Utah’s tallest mountain ranges, housing several peaks over 12,000 feet in elevation and featuring Utah’s highest road at an elevation of 11,500 feet. Straddling Beaver and Piute Counties and nestled in the expansive Fishlake National Forest, The Tushars possess amazing vistas, seemingly endless solitude and vast opportunities for unconfined and self propelled recreation. Aravaipa running does a great job at hosting this race every year. UD Athlete, Jason Schlarb took the trails by storm and crushed the course with a 1st place course record finish in the 100k category with a time of 12:47 – way to go!

“Snow, creek crossings, breathtaking climbs, jaw dropping views and mud from the previous day’s rainstorm were just a few of the special treats runners experienced while out on course during last Saturday’s event. And, as far as July weather in the high country goes, partly cloudy skies and sunshine were on display for the day sans a small rain/hail storm that passed through quickly. It was a near perfect day for big mountain running.” -Tushars Race Crew

“I’ve heard so many great things about Tushars. Remote, beautiful, high elevation, similar to the San Juans, steep… I can verify all these things now, along with the fact that this race has the super laid back “family reunion” feel that I love & appreciate. A great day pushing hard, winning & setting a course record of 12:47 (13:33 old) on the super burly rain & snow ravaged trails is encouraging. Also encouraging, is getting to see my love Meredith on the crux climb (nearly 4k up to 12,000ft close to the end of the day).” ~Schlarb’s reflection on the race.
