Scott Jurek is “The Man” – other ultra runners consider him the king, the top of the heap. He won the Western States 100 seven times in a row – current winners acknowledge that will never be done again.
Now he has switched sports – Scott has taken that same commitment and intensity and applied it to the business of running. He has written a book, helped develop a radical new hydration system, and is supporting the sport. He is working hard to be as successful in the business of running as he was in competition.
Scott recently did a Presentation at Sports Basement in San Francisco, where he led a Fun Run on Chrissy Field, signed his book, showed a short video on Copper Canyon and answered questions. Michael Strickland, their Marketing Coordinator, wrote,
“I wanted to send you all a very big THANK YOU for such a great event last night! Scott – thanks for being you and spreading your inspirational message to our local running enthusiast and nutrition conscience community. It was a pleasure working with you. Buzz – the Signature Series vests were a hit with most of them selling last night. I have received requests to hold a few for fellow ultra runners that were not able to attend last night and are coming by the store this weekend to purchase a vest.”
Scott of course helped design the SJ Ultra Vest, part of the Signature Series, which is in super-hot demand; he describes it in this video. The Ultimate Direction website sold out in an astonishing one hour 23 minutes as soon as they went on sale! (A few more will be released on Monday – warning – they will be gone by end of the day). Scott had been customizing his UD Wasp pack to carry bottles up front instead of a reservoir in the rear, so he was very keen to design to design a vest specifically for that purpose.
Scott will do a Presentation next at Luke’s Locker on Sunday, 12/2 in Austin, Texas, and again the next day at Luke’s Locker in Dallas. Check Scott’s website for details. He is expected to draw over 200 people at each event, running with and available to talk with each one.
While in Ausin, Scott and his wife Jenny will attend The Running Event, an annual tradeshow for specialty running retailers where he will sign and give away his poster, and show hard-core running dealers why his Ultra Vest is a major break-thru in hydration technology.
“… after being online for pre-sale only 24 hours, we’re already sold out of our first shipment of AK and SJ Vests. As I said before, we will take any units that may come available before the next ship date in January. We’re excited to see such awesome demand for the product.”

“Also, let me know when/if the Jurek handheld and hydration belts can be booked out and may be available. I was reading about them on the blog and think they could be great additions to our hydration selection as well.”
Scott is now supporting the sport with the same dedication and success as when he competed in it.

I love reading about what Scott is up to. What a great motivator for both runners and non runners
I saw Scott at the Boulder Running Company on Wednesday night with Anton and Peter. What an inspirational trio of athletes.
